CENTENNIAL SAILING TEAM

By The Wind We Rise

The Philippine National Sailing Team, under the governance of the Philippine Sailing Association (PSA) and the supervision of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), proudly upholds the nation’s rich maritime heritage. Since its establishment in 1964, the PSA has led the development of sailing in the Philippines—identifying and nurturing young athletes, and transforming them into world-class competitors who embody the spirit and resilience of the “Pearl of the Orient Seas.”

Over the years, the team has made significant strides in both regional and international arenas, earning recognition from the global sailing community. Among its notable achievements are five medals (three gold, one silver, and one bronze) at the 2019 SEA Games hosted by the Philippines; an all-Filipino crew led by veteran sailor Ernesto “Judes” Echauz claiming line honours at the 2023 Rolex China Sea Race; and a silver medal finish at the FE28R World Championships.

These milestones exemplify the precision, teamwork, and dedication that define the Philippine National Sailing Team across multiple classes, including Optimist, ILCA/Laser, 420, 470, Hobie, and keelboats. Strengthened by years of experience navigating the Philippines’ diverse wind and sea conditions, and supported by leading clubs such as Subic Sailing, Taal Lake Yacht Club, and Puerto Galera Yacht Club, Albay Yacht Club, as well as the steadfast sponsorhip of Standard Insurance—the team continues to elevate Philippine sailing to international prominence.

Anchored by national pride and inspired by the country’s seafaring legacy, the team seeks to inspire future generations to embrace sailing as a pursuit of discipline, adventure, and excellence. As they prepare for the SSL Gold Cup, the Philippine National Sailing Team stands ready to represent the nation with pride, proving that Filipino skill, teamwork, and determination can shine brightly on the world stage.
